The Toshiba Thrive 10.1″ Android Tablet Review, Unboxing, & Setup
This is not only an unboxing video, but also shows the setup process when you first boot-up the device. The Toshiba Thrive Tablet shown here is the Thrive AT105-T1032 model which comes with a 32GB internal hard drive and allows for the user to install another 32GB SDHC chip.
This tablet has a 2 megapixel front facing camera and a 5 megapixel camera on the backside. It will automatically sync to your google gmail account if you have one and install any apps that you may have already downloaded on another android device you may own. It plays flash videos pretty seemlessly and is definitely a strong competitor for the ipad2 by apple.
Here are some of the features listed on the side of the box:
- Android 3.1, Honeycomb
- 10.1″ Multi-touch LED Screen
- NVIDIA Tegra 2
- 2MP Webcam & 5MP Camera
- Gyroscope Sensor
- Full-size USB Port
- Full-size SD Card Slot
- HDMI Port
- Easy Grip Back Cover
- Stereo Speakers
Some of the things not mentioned is that users can purchase and change the backing of the unit to other colors. Also, the battery is easily removed and replaceable, unlike the ipad and ipad2. For heavy duty travelers, this means you can now carry and extra battery or two and not have to worry about the unit dying for a very very long time.
You can reserve your unit now for pickup at you local Best Buy here:

I purchased an extended warranty for $99 through www.squaretrade.com for 2 years coverage with accidental damage and NO DEDUCTIBLE if repairs are needed. I hope I never have to use the warranty, but in case the unit breaks, I’m covered for repair or replacement.

I’ve purchased the Thrive but cannot figure out how to set up a printer to use with it — I’ve tried a few things and sometimes it’ll print to a wireless printer I have but I cannot figure out how to print,,,say…a gmail mail – any hints or ideas for me? (it tells me no printer is set up — well, of course I know this!) 🙂

Sorry Lisa, I haven’t used my thrive to print, but I did see on the toshiba thrive forums that there are apps that some people really like. Unfortunately, its not a free app and your thrive will have to be on the same network that the printer is on. I personally use google docs (now called google drive) to use as a transfer file location to move printable things to my computer that is hooked up to a printer I can print from.
